Davey Chlorinator Repairs

Davey’s saltwater chlorinators range from the compact ChloroMatic Nipper to the EcoMatic COMM, a commercial solution built to handle heavy bather loads.

Like all chlorinators, though, they rely on fault-free sensing to work.

If you’ve encountered a persistent ‘Low Salt’ reading or another common problem, we’ll help get your chlorinator working again.

Often, a salt cell clean or replacement is enough, but our workshop technicians can also fix electrical issues like faulty control panels and flow sensors.

A broken chlorinator shouldn’t mean paying for a full replacement.

Davey Water Part FAQs

How do you charge for diagnoses and repairs?

We charge a fixed strip-and-quote fee, which includes our technicians dismantling your Davey part in our workshop and diagnosing the problem. We’ll then provide a second fixed quote for a repair or replacement. Our pricing for repairs includes a service fee plus the cost of any required parts. It’s no different to taking your car to a mechanic.

How do I pull apart a Davey pump?

If your pump is still under warranty, please don’t try to repair or disassemble it. Take it to a Davey certified warranty agent instead.

If your pump is outside of its warranty period (Davey pumps tend to have warranties of 2–3 years), bringing it into a workshop with qualified technicians is still normally best. They’ll be able to disassemble the pump quickly and accurately diagnose the problem without causing any damage.

Still prefer to do something simple like a housing change yourself? Call us or another Davey supplier ahead of time to get the parts you need.

  1. Once you’re ready, unscrew the 2 barrel unions for the suction and discharge and unplug the motor.
  2. Tip the motor up to empty any excess water.
  3. Undo the bolts connecting the motor to the pump housing.
  4. When the motor and the housing have been separated, check the impeller on the motor to make sure it spins freely. (If it doesn’t, bring it into a workshop.)
  5. On the pump housing, remove the O-ring around the baffle plate, then pop the baffle plate itself out.
  6. Remove the second O-ring that sits on the opposite side of the baffle plate. Check that both O-rings aren’t corroded.
  7. Refit the baffle plate by aligning it with the holes on the impeller.
  8. Fit both O-rings back into position around the baffle plate. Make sure they fit snugly.
  9. Place the new housing back into position and put the bolts back in.
  10. Put the reassembled pump back into place, reconnect the 2 barrel unions, then prime it and switch it on.
  11. Check for any leaks once the pump is running.

Keep in mind that all Davey pumps are different and that the above instructions are general information only. We do recommend that all pump repairs and installations be conducted by qualified, experienced technicians.

How do I prime a Davey pump?

To prime a Davey pump, follow the below instructions.

  1. Make sure your pool’s water level is at the correct height (at least halfway up the skimmer box) and that all required valves are open.
  2. Remove the strainer basket lid and fill the strainer basket with water.
  3. Refit the lid.
  4. Connect the pump to power and switch it on.
  5. Most Davey pumps will automatically run on priming mode for several minutes.
  6. After that time, bubble-free water should be flowing strongly into the pool. Check the strainer basket lid to make sure there isn’t any air visible under it either. If you do see air, call a pool technician – you likely have a problem with your suction piping.
How do I reset a Davey pump?

Most Davey pumps can be reset by pressing the 3 ‘Flow’ buttons together for 5 seconds. The 3 buttons should light up once. Let go – your pump will now be reset to its factory settings. For advice specific to your pump model, check the owner’s manual.
