Pentair Pool Pump Repairs

Pentair Chlorinator Repairs

It’s unusual for a Pentair chlorinator to need a full replacement.

Even if it’s not functioning properly, most problems can be solved by cleaning the salt cell, swapping the sensor, or making sure the pool chemicals are balanced.

If you think the salt cell might be calcified (which affects chlorine production and can damage the electrodes), give it an acid bath.

Otherwise, remove the chlorinator completely and bring it into our Varsity Lakes workshop.

If you’re a homeowner, call us for a referral to a pool technician – chlorinators can be tricky to uninstall.

Pentair Filter Maintenance

Pentair’s pool filter bodies are built for durability – but that doesn’t extend to their filtration media or internal components.

If you don’t feel comfortable swapping cartridges or media, bring your filter into our workshop.

Our technicians will extract all media, check key internal components for wear and damage, and refill your filter with Pentair-approved options.

If we do notice something that’s broken or failing, we’ll replace it with a genuine Pentair part – and, as authorised agents, we’ll do it without impacting the filter’s warranty.

Pentair Pool Part FAQs

How do you charge for diagnoses and repairs?

We charge a fixed strip-and-quote fee, which includes our technicians dismantling your Pentair part and diagnosing the problem. We’ll then provide a second fixed quote for a repair or replacement. Our pricing for repairs includes a service fee plus the cost of any required parts. It’s no different to taking your car to a mechanic.

How do I change the sand in a Pentair filter?

Pentair sand filters use sand and pressure to clean particles from your pool’s water. The sand filter range includes the FreeFlo, LeisureTime, Pantera, PWT, TAGELUS, and TRITON filters. Sand change times vary between models, but, generally, you should change your sand every 5 years.

Here’s how.

Remove your filter from your pool system.
Consult the product information table on the side of your filter. It should have volumes listed for different types of fillers.
Buy your preferred sand type from a supplier like us. You can ask one of our technicians which sand type is most effective for your pool.
Open the drainage plug at the bottom of the filter to let any excess water drain out.
If you have a side-mount model, use a Pentair wrench to open the lid.

If you have a top-mount model, unscrew the two screws holding the lock ring in place, then lift out the multi-port valve.

If you have a side-mount model, push the black plastic top piece to the side so you can access the sand.

If you have a top-mount model, cover or plug the central vertical tube so sand doesn’t fall down during the refilling process.

Use a wet-and-dry vacuum to extract the sand from your filter. You can also manually scrape it out. Be careful of the delicate laterals at the bottom of your filter.
Rinse any remaining sand down to the bottom of the filter, then vacuum it again.
Replace the drainage plug and add enough water to your filter so the laterals are covered.
Pour in your sand.
Replace the top piece (for side-mounts) or unplug the vertical tube (for top-mounts), then replace the lid or multi-port valve.
Reconnect your filter to your pool system, then backwash it for around 3 minutes while bleeding pressure using the air pressure release valve.
Once the backwash water is clean, move the control valve back to ‘Filter’. Your sand change is complete.

How do I reset a Pentair ScreenLogic?

To reset the Pentair ScreenLogic’s protocol adapter (the small white box connected via a blue ethernet cable), use a paperclip the press the reset button three times. The reset button is located on the opposite end of the protocol adapter to the cabling. It’s the small hole to the right of the power light.

How long do Pentair filters last?

Pentair filter cartridges last 2 to 3 years. Sand and glass filter media should be changed at the 5-year mark. Most Pentair filters have a warranty period of 5 years, but, with good maintenance, protection from the weather, and the occasional part change, they can last much longer.
